Simeon’s Robert Smith Talks about His Legacy

As the IHSA Boy’s Basketball season kicks off this week in Illinois, Lance and Jason talk with Simeon coach Robert Smith before his final year leading the Wolverines. One of the most successful coaches in the state’s history, with multiple city and state titles, Smith explains why he thinks now is a good time to leave coaching, discusses how he is as a basketball dad and sets the record straight on why he never took a coaching job in college, but hasn’t ruled it out either. He also surprises us with his choice of the most underrated player he has ever coached.

Also appearing on this episode, is up and coming head coach RoShawn Russell of St. Rita High School. The Mustangs are ranked as one of the top teams in the state and will have one of the toughest schedules. Russell talks about no longer being able to sneak up on teams, the challenges of vying for space in a football dominated culture at St. Rita and how he thinks the game is changing for the worse in the United States where he thinks a focus needs to be more on basic skills.
