Orr Academy Student Missing and in Danger
Police in Chicago are looking for a high school student from the city’s West Side who may have fallen in with a crowd of dangerous individuals. Camiel Jones, 17, was last seen at her home in the 4900 block of Rice St. on June 18 around 1 p.m. Her mother Jacquetta Jones said she has never had any discipline problems with her daughter and believes she may have fallen in with a bad crowd from a group of new friends she has been hanging with.
“I think she may have runaway with some people who I don’t know,” said Camiel’s terrified mother. “I don’t know where she was headed to because I didn’t even know she was leaving. I don’t know if this is a kidnapping or a runaway situation because this has never happened before. I was notified from my other daughter that these are new friends she is with. Neither my other daughter or I know these new friends as far as where they live or where they hang out.”
Jones said she filed the missing person report because none of her daughter’s longtime friends have seen her either. She found a troubling video in her daughter’s cellphone, which was left at home. The video shows Camiel with a gun, along with some unsavory characters who could not be identified. She said she did not recognize the home they were in.
“This is all shocking and new to me. You don’t know what is going on. You don’t know what has happened already,” Ms. Jones said. “I’ve dealt with the typical teenager behavior before with her, but nothing like what I saw in that video. I would never have thought she would be involved in stuff that I saw on that video. A lot of things go through your mind with all the stuff going on in the city that is dangerous. You’re human you think about stuff you see on TV and in the movies with the sex trafficking. People may have drugged her or taken advantage of her because she is young and can be naive.”
Camiel Jones is a student at Orr Academy and her mother said she has been a student in good standing. The Chicago Teacher’s Union and Chicago Public Schools are also aware of Jones’ disappearance and are sharing information of her disappearance on their social media pages.
Jones is known to frequent the Chicago beach areas along North Avenue and 31st Street Beach on the city’s South Side. Jones was last seen wearing blue jean shorts, with a navy blue crop top and blue/black Jordan brand gym shoes. Jones also has piercings in her nose and belly button.
Jones is listed at 5’2” and weighs approximately 130 lbs. She is of medium complexion and has long brown braids. The Chicago Police Department considers her an endangered person at this time.
