CONVICTED
R. Kelly Found Guilty on All Counts
By J. Coyden Palmer
A federal jury in New York City Monday afternoon convicted R&B singer R. Kelly on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking charges. It is the first conviction of Kelly, since rumors of him sexually abusing teenage girls in the Chicago area began in the early 2000’s. Kelly was charged previously in Cook County with sex crimes against a minor, but the main victim in that case refused to testify against him and a jury found him not guilty.
During the five-week trial there were 50 witnesses who testified. The only people allowed in the courtroom were the jurors and parties involved in the case. The media was forced to cover the proceedings in an overflow courtroom.
Kelly will be sentenced on May 4, 2022. He could be facing decades in prison.
