Former NFL Player Found and Arrested in California

Sergio Brown was arrested Wednesday morning by federal authorities in San Diego. Brown is suspected of murdering his mother. He has been missing since last month. There was a video of him online showing him partying in Mexico and taunting U.S. law enforcement. In the end, he was taken into custody at the border in San Diego as he was trying to reenter the U.S. He is expected to be arraigned sometime today in California. A warrant for first-degree murder had been issued less than a week after his mother’s body was found in a creek behind her home.
Police in suburban Chicago have issued a community alert after the mother of a former NFL player was found murdered in Maywood, Illinois and her son, Sergio Brown is missing. Brown, 35, who played high school football at famed Proviso East before earning a scholarship to Notre Dame, is considered missing and endangered authorities said. The body of his mother Myrtle Brown was found in a creek behind her home.
Brown last played in the NFL in 2016. Police say finding him is the most important thing right now and they fear he is in danger. His mother’s death has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Family members have been talking to the media and begging for help in finding Sergio. They say the mother and son were close and can’t believe such a tragedy has come to this family.
Sergio Brown is 6’2” and weighs about 210 lbs. Police in Maywood are asking anyone with information to contact them or local law enforcement at 708-450-1787.
